Some of you might have noticed it, some of you might have already favourited www.gamerbyte.co.uk/smf to save yourself some hassle. I decided it looked a bit unprofessional before, so I decided to spice it up a little bit before I eventually get around to making us a basic site again (Not for news and stuff, just an about us, server list etc).

The banner was made by Morse and I over the past couple of days.  It will probably be used on the new site as well unless you all decide that it is offensive to your culture or something. I really like this banner and I can see it sticking for a while, but it won't be used on the forums simply due to the size constraints we have.

Edit - Also, if you see a box around the banner, that is because the page is written in HTML5 and IE does not support HTML5, hence why you see the stupid box. If you want a solution, download a good browser.

I just set up an RSS feed again for the TF Blog, however now I have a bit more control over it, so now all blog posts will be made by the forum user "Team Fortress Blog", and will have a prefix of [Blog]. This updates every 5 minutes.

I will be adding badges back into the forum this week as well, however they will be a little different and most likely they will be harder to get. More on that when it happens.

Instead of the thanks feature (Which there is an SMF version of, but is crap), I may try out a reputation system for a similar effect, however I will only enable positive rep, as in the past negative rep has been abused and is unnecessary....

As you can quite blatantly see, we are back on SMF. I managed to convert everything fine from Vbulletin, so your accounts and posts are all safe, but the only problem is with youtube videos atm. That is because we used an automatic media embedder on the Vb forums which adds a code for youtube videos, which isn't understood by SMF. I have installed another AME on SMF, so all new videos will work in the old way (Pasting a youtube link), but all old embedded videos will not work.

As I've had to setup Gb forums many times in the past, I can already predict a couple of things I will hear

- OMG This theme sucks
- Where's the shoutbox?
- Badges pl0x

So I'll explain these each individually to save time later.

- The theme is always the last thing I change, as it's the least important in my eyes. Once I have everything installed, I will look for some more themes, but it is incredibly dull scrolling through themes trying to find good looking ones that are compatible with SMF 2.0, but I will try get a few themes installed.

- I've tried a few shoutbox addons and none of them have worked so far, but I'll have another crack at it in a bit.

- AFAIK there is no badge addon for SMF, so you will not be getting them. I know badges are the Gb equivalent of hats, so I know some of you will be greatly upset at this loss, but you'll soon get over it.

New Teamspeak IP, the server pass is the same. This time however, no fucking with individual permissions.

The forum switch will happen sometime next week, hopefully all accounts and posts will be saved.

I've also modified the permissions system, so that admins have their own group seperate to "Server Admin" so I can control what things people can do, aka- stop people making themselves unbannable. If there are any permissions missing, let me know admins....

I realise over the past few months our website has been like Fort Knox, so I've decided that since we have the TF2 server and should hopefully get new members, opening up registration would be wise. Users still require email and admin activation to join....
